in 2022, we reached new heights.

2022 was an incredible year for Altoona. The City reached a population of nearly 20,000 residents, a 35% increase since 2010. Over $320 million in new building permits were issued, the second highest year of permit valuations, behind 2021. Plus, the City approved site plans for over 2 million square feet of new space development.

Altoona continues to grow in a remarkable fashion, helping the many proud families and businesses that reside here to flourish. The road ahead of Iowa's Rising Star is paved with opportunity.

In 2022, the City annexed 78 acres of new territory. The majority property owner within the territory is the Southeast Polk Community School District. They have since begun construction on a new 6th-7th grade middle school with plans to open in the Fall of 2024. The annexation also included six single-family homes.
