Thursday, November 2 was a big day for Iowa’s rising star. Altoona was named “Iowa Technology Community of the Year” by the Technology Association of Iowa at their 2023 Prometheus Awards. This event brought business pioneers, educators and public officials together to celebrate the accomplishments of Iowa’s thriving tech industry.
The award, evaluated by a panel of prominent industry experts statewide, is presented to Iowa cities and regions that are investing in technology to strengthen their local economies, enhance educational prospects and enrich the quality of life for community members.
A development-friendly city that’s quickly emerging as Central Iowa’s tech hub, Altoona was a fitting choice for this recognition.
According to the organization, “The Altoona community has experienced significant growth and innovation that truly sets it apart. Home to the data centers of Lightedge Solutions and Meta, Altoona’s tech initiatives extend well beyond data centers. Other notable projects include a citywide fiber project to improve connectivity, the police department’s Intranet transformation to improve communication, and the Maker Hub Technology Center at the Altoona Public Library to nurture the next generation of tech professionals. Altoona’s tech achievements are remarkable, propelling this community toward a brighter, more innovative future.”
