Now is the perfect time for AltoonaPalooza—a rocking, action-packed festival that features live music and fun from dawn to dusk. With businesses growing, residents thriving and entertainment booming, Altoona really is Iowa’s rising star. And new additions—like Facebook’s state-of-the-art data center—give Altoona even more reasons to celebrate.
The Sixth Annual AltoonaPalooza kicks-off at 8 a.m. August 29 with a sweet beginning: the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast, a Palooza favorite. For $6, festival-goers can enjoy a delicious pancake and sausage breakfast, tasty fuel for a day packed with activities.
Things get down and dirty 10 a.m. at the mud volleyball tournament, where 16 teams will battle for mud-pit prestige. Teams of as many as 10 players can have six people on the court at a time—bumping, setting, spiking and mudding through a classic Altoona tradition.
Later, AltoonaPalooza revs into high gear with the Palooza Car Show 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Autos of all sorts will be judged over several categories, with up to 20 awards given. For even more horsepower, check out the Antique Tractor Show 8 a.m.-2 p.m.
The day will culminate in an outdoor concert, featuring rock bands Standing Hampton and Richie Lee & the Fabulous 50’s. Standing Hampton, the night’s main attraction, will take the stage at 8 p.m., playing rock hits from the ‘70’s and ‘80’s. Richie Lee will open beforehand, starting at 5 p.m.
