Lately, Kalyn Gibson finds herself spending more and more time in Altoona—for business and for fun. Along with her husband Matt, Kalyn owns Forever Home Inspection Iowa, a company that has provided nearly 2,000 home inspections, including many in the Altoona market. (No surprise there. As the city’s population continues to grow, Altoona’s real-estate market is booming.)

Q. Personally, what do you like about Altoona?
A. Since moving to the Des Moines area more than 12 years ago, Altoona has held a special place in my heart. Adventureland Park, the local restaurants and shops—and, of course, the amazing people—come together to give Altoona its one-of-a-kind charm.
Several of my closest friends call Altoona ‘home,’ and I just really enjoy the community. My husband and I even held our wedding rehearsal dinner at Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse in Altoona in 2017!
Q. As an entrepreneur, what attracts you to our community?
A. As the owner of Forever Home Inspection Iowa, it’s a pleasure serving clients in Altoona and the surrounding area. Altoona is one of my favorite communities in Iowa because the locals are genuinely kind and welcoming.
Whenever we’re working with our home inspection clients in Altoona, the climate feels safe and comfortable. Even though the community is located just a few miles from the heart of Des Moines, it emanates a small-town, friendly vibe. I’m always excited to serve our Altoona clients!
Q. Favorite thing about Altoona?
A. I appreciate Altoona for hosting the Jolly Holiday Lights event every year for Make-A-Wish Iowa. It’s such a wonderful cause. It truly makes a difference in the lives of so many children. As a former schoolteacher, I believe there’s no greater mission that to invest in the lives of our youth.
